New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Venture Opera) This fall, Venture Opera opens their inaugural season with Mozart and Da Ponte's Don
Giovanni at the
Angel Orensanz Center on November 6th, 8th, and 10th. The
Angel Orensanz Center, located at 172 Norfolk Street, is the oldest surviving synagogue in New York City. This Gothic Revival space is being adapted for Edwin Cahill's (Fire Island Opera Festival) immersive production, in which the title character is cast as a Catholic priest and serial seducer. Performed in Italian with projected English translations, the opera will run approximately 135 minutes with one intermission.
The installation, with costumes designed by Project Runway season 12 finalist Bradon McDonald, movement by Joel Reuben Ganz, lights designed by Yael Lubetzky, and Jason Brouillard as Production Supervisor, begins where Don Giovanni's story must end: souls living out their eternal judgment. The ghosts of Don Giovanni, his victims, his enemies will be brought to life by Ryan McAdams (Opera Theatre of St. Louis), conducting a 32-piece orchestra, and Philip Cutlip (Joseph De Rocher in Heggie's Dead Man Walking -
Houston Grand Opera), starring as the corrupt pastor, whose story's end catapults the audience from the purgatory of souls into an after-party celebrating the triumph of the light of truth.
Philip Cutlip leads a cast of opera's finest: Eric Downs, Christian Zaremba, Amy Shoremount-Obra, Yujoong Kim, Marquita Raley, Matthew Patrick Morris, Cecelia Hall, and Joel Reuben Ganz. Venture Opera's Young Artist Program provides the haunting chorus.
Opening night begins at 7:30 PM on Friday, November 6th. On Sunday, November 8th, the show begins at 6:30 PM. The closing night performance on Tuesday, November 10th, begins at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $80/VIP (Floor), $50/VIP (Balcony), $40/General Admission, and $20/After-Party only. A beer and wine bar opens 1 hour prior to each performance. Tickets are available on Venture Opera's website, www.ventureopera.com
