Carlos Vives Day - Dia De Carlos Vives En La Ciudad De Los Angeles
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) 9x Latin Grammy & 2x Grammy winning recording artist/producer Carlos Vives today brought his band members, rhythm instruments, tamborines, bongos and a djambe drum to the The GRAMMY Museum at LA Live today to share his love of music with 4th grade students from the acclaimed Para Los Niños elementary school, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the academic success and social wellbeing of children.

Vives was introduced by L.A. City Councilman Curren Price Jr of the 9th District who presented Carlos Proclamation from the City and declared: " NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that by the adoption of this Resolution, the Council of the City of Los Angeles does hereby declare October 23, 2015 to be "Carlos Vives Day" in the City of Los Angeles, in recognition of his countless contributions over the course of his career and his generous charitable giving, which continues to change lives."

As the children settled into the Clive Davies Theatre at the Museum, each were given a rhythm instrument, and Carlos proceeded to show them how to use shakers, drums, and other instruments to make music together. He told he students the story of his music: that he combined the music of his birthplace, Santa Marta, Colombia, with is love for rock 'n roll. He then did a special set of five songs for the children with six members of his band. Carlos and a member of the Grammy museum executive staff took them on a tour of some of the exhibits at the museum so they could understand the importance of their musical inheritance.

"We are honored to have Para Los Niños take part in this extraordinary event with Carlos," said Martine Singer, President & CEO of Para Los Niños. "These opportunities remind us of the positive impact access can provide LA's neediest children, so they get the knowledge and sense of well-being they need to create successful lives."

"It has been a very special experience to work today at the Grammy Museum for the kids in the Para Los Niños Foundation. I was delighted to share with them the music that we do and to teach them a little bit of the history behind the Colombian music," said Carlos Vives. "We created an amazing experience with the children and the museum's staff, in a day of so much importance to us in Los Angeles."

Vives is a father of four and loves working with children. He produced a children's album Pombo Musical, a musical tribute to the Colombian writer and poet Rafael Pombo, which won a Latin Grammy award for Best Latin Children's Album. He recently launched Tras la Perla de la América an initiative with the purpose of starting a positive transformation of Santa Marta, at the level of the historic, social, cultural and environmental commitment that the city deserves making it sustainable. He is currently on the UNIDO2 TOUR co-headlining with Marc Anthony, and took time off from the tour to spend the time with the children of Para Los Niños. UNIDO2 Tour in Las Vegas, NV at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in September, and by its end Vives and Anthony will have performed in front of over 250,000 fans.
