Two Varese Sarabande Soundtracks Recognized With Academy Award Nominations
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Varèse Sarabande is proud to have released the soundtracks for two of the five Academy Award® nominated films in the Best Original Score Category. Carter Burwell earned his first nomination with his score for the Todd Haynes film CAROL. Jóhann Jóhannsson earned his second consecutive nomination with SICARIO.

CAROL has earned numerous accolades for its composer, Carter Burwell. A two-time Golden Globe nominee, Burwell has a long-standing relationship with Varèse Sarabande - which includes the soundtracks for RAISING ARIZONA, MILLER'S CROSSING, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, and MILDRED PIERCE.

"It's hard to believe that Carter Burwell has never received an Academy Award nomination until now," said Robert Townson, Head Soundtrack Producer at Varèse Sarabande. "Carter Burwell has been one of film music's most distinctive voices for the last three decades. Carter truly has a sound all his own and has always been a little alternative. The recognition and acclaim he's been receiving for his latest score CAROL, is long overdue!"

Jóhann Jóhannsson earned his first nomination last year with his emotive score for THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING. SICARIO, his second nomination in a row, harkens back to the composer's darker and more experimental side, more reminiscent of his work on PRISONERS, also directed by Denis Villenueve.

"We are very happy to see a newer voice like Jóhann Jóhannsson be recognized for his boundary-pushing work on SICARIO," said Darren Blumenthal, CEO of Varèse Sarabande. "We have a long history at Varèse Sarabande of supporting distinctive artists in film music and look forward to working with both Jóhann and Carter for many years to come!"

The Academy Awards will be broadcast live on ABC February 28, 2016.
