Lakeshore Records Presents 'Zoolander No. 2' Original Soundtrack
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Lakeshore Records will release Zoolander No. 2 - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 12th and on CD later this winter. The album features the films original score by Theodore Shapiro (TRUMBO, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA).

At its heart, Zoolander No. 2 is an epic mystery, Shapiro described. The movie starts with the question, Who is killing the worlds biggest pop stars? and continues on a dark journey into the depraved madness that lies at the heart of the fashion world. The director Ben Stiller and I knew that such an epic journey required a score to match.

I always favor a very serious approach to scoring comedies, and Ben, who is the films star as well as its director, shares that approach completely, said Shapiro. We really only talk about the music in terms of storytelling, never about jokes. The films comedy always comes out in contrast to the seriousness of the musics tone.

Theodore Shapiro studied music, wrote a musical about a cryogenically frozen head, and played in a neo-disco band called God at Brown University, and then received a Masters degree in composition from The Juilliard School. Following Juilliard he began both scoring films and writing commissions for the concert hall, including works performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, New York Chamber Symphony, and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

After scoring some notable independent films in New York, including Karyn Kusamas GIRLFIGHT, and David Mamets HEIST and STATE AND MAIN, Shapiro was hired to score the hit comedy OLD SCHOOL for director Todd Phillips. He has since become one of Hollywoods most sought after composers.

His recent film work includes the Academy Award nominated TRUMBO, Spy, directed by Paul Feig and starring Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jude Law and Jason Statham; The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty (for which he won an International Film Music Critics Award); Ted Melfis directorial debut, St. Vincent, starring Bill Murray; the critically acclaimed Sundance Film Festival entry INFINITELY POLAR BEAR, and the hit comedy Were The Millers. He was nominated for an Emmy for his score to the HBO film, Game Change. Other notable work includes the Ben Stiller-directed action-comedy Tropic Thunder; Marley and Me, The Devil Wears Prada, I Love You, Man, Nancy Meyers THE INTERN; and the Oscar-nominated animated film, The Pirates! Band of Misfits. Next up for Shapiro is the Paul Feig-directed reboot of GHOSTBUSTERS, starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.

The ZOOLANDER NO. 2 score features a very large brass section, choir, loads of percussion, and the occasional four-on-the-floor thump of the kick drum, Shapiro explained. As the movie descends deeper into mystery, the score develops more and more wildness, with primal horn shrieks and pounding drums.

Paramount Pictures presents ZOOLANDER NO. 2, in theatres on February 12, 2016. Lakeshore Records will release ZOOLANDER NO. 2 soundtrack digitally on February 12th and on CD shortly thereafter.
