State Theatre Presents An Autism-Friendly Performance Featuring Acrobatic Troupe, Galumpha On March 6, 2016
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) State Theatre presents Galumpha on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 2pm and 5pm. The Galumpha performances are part of the State Theatre's inaugural Autism-Friendly Performances series. Tickets are $25.

Featuring three fearless performers, Galumpha has been described as a "human jungle gym" that combines acrobatic movement, physical comedy, and inventive choreography in gravity-defying poses and spectacular feats of physical strength. The State Theatre is proud to present the talented trio as part of the State Theatre's new Autism-Friendly Performance series. The show, which calls for a smaller, more intimate space, will be performed at the Crossroads Theatre located on 7 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ.

At these autism-friendly events, both the performances and the theater environment are designed to create a safe, welcoming experience. During the performance, the audience is free to talk and vocalize, and leave and re-enter the seating area as needed. Audience members who need to take a break can visit the calming room, equipped with coloring pages and fidget toys, and staffed by autism specialists. Downloadable social narratives will be available to help audience members become familiar with the show and the theater space in advance.

"We are thrilled to provide the autism community with opportunities to experience high-quality live performances in an environment that is sensitive to their special needs," said Lian Farrer, State Theatre Vice President of Education. "This new initiative reflects the State Theatre's ongoing commitment to making our programs accessible to the entire community."

Utilizing skillful balance, trust, and collaboration, the dancers of Galumpha demonstrate what real teamwork is all about as they create a sensory feast of images ranging from the ridiculous to the awe-inspiring. Performers include Andy Horowitz, Gil Young Choi, and Brianna Barnett.

Formed in 2002 by Andy Horowitz and Greg O'Brien, Galumpha delivers a fast-paced, athletic brand of movement, distinctive for its ingenuity. Highlights include "Velcro" as seen on The Late Show with David Letterman, Crook and Chase (TNN), and the 2002 MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon, and "Clackers," seen on MTV, Showtime, A&E, Just for Laughs in Montreal, and by over one billion television viewers around the globe. Other pieces feature experiments in human architecture set to music by Rachmaninov, Mahler, and the virtuoso Czech band Jablkon, making for an exceptionally entertaining program.

Andy Horowitz, President & Director / Performer
Andy Horowitz has performed his choreographic works at more than two thousand venues in 30 countries, including London's Southbank Center, New York's Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The Seoul Arts Center, Berlin's Akademie Der Künste, TheStadsschouwburg of Amsterdam, The Kravis Center, and countless others.
