Montreal Is Once Again On The Map Celebrating Jazz With The Rest Of The World On International Jazz Day, April 30th
MONTREAL, CANADA (Top40 Charts) The 30th of April has become a must for jazz musicians and aficionados since 2011, when UNESCO designated it as International Jazz Day. For the second consecutive year, this unique and important global event, celebrating music in unison, is honored by Divertissement Mercier booking agency through a showcase presenting some of Montreal's musical treasures. The production of this anticipated event is made possible thanks to partnerships with Les Belles Soires series of Universit de Montral and La Vitrine Culturelle.

The event will be held Saturday, April 30th at 8 pm at Le Centre d'essai auditorium of l'Universit de Montral (see address below).
The artist lineup is as follows:
- Pianist Marianne Trudel, winner of a Prix Opus and singer Sonia Johnson, winner of a Juno award, accompanied by bassist Rmi-Jean Leblanc
- The Emie R Roussel Trio, voted CBC Jazz Revelation (2014-2015) and winner of the Felix award for best jazz album of the year by ADISQ (The Qubec Association for the Recording, Concert and Video Industries) for the trio's 2015 album, Quantum
- The Jazzamboka collective, winner of the Place Des Arts award and the CIBL Radio award in 2014 at the Vitrine Des Musiques Locales Mtisses showcase, and winner of six awards at the Festival Vue Sur La Relve in 2015. Jazzamboka will invite to join them one of the most sought-after jazz saxophonists on the Montreal scene, Jean-Pierre Zanella, who received the prestigious Oscar Peterson Award at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2011.
- In addition, the evening will feature an exhibition of jazz-inspired photos by Montreal photographer Randy Cole, starting at 6 pm.

Why International Jazz Day?
Jazz reduces tensions between individuals, groups and communities. Jazz breaks down barriers and creates opportunities for mutual understanding and tolerance. Jazz encourages artistic innovation, improvisation, new forms of expression, and inclusion of traditional music forms into new ones. (United Nations)

In the words of Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO: "In times of change and uncertainty, we need the spirit of jazz more than ever before, to bring people - especially young women and men - together, to nurture freedom and dialogue, to create new bridges of respect and understanding, for greater tolerance and cooperation." This resonates Miles Davis' assertion that "music isn't about competition, but about cooperation, doing shit together and fitting in."

We invite the public to join us in celebrating the fifth edition of this global event. Please remember to use the hashtags: #jazzday and #jazzdaymtl in your social networks when commenting on this event!
