New York, NY (Top40 Charts) This year's event, our love letter to Oakland, will pay special homage to those who've been in Oakland for a long time, doing great work, and who deserve recognition for their lasting impact.

The Oakland Indie Awards on May 12th, 2016 at 6:30pm at the Oakland Museum of California (1000 Oak St) celebrate a decade of honoring local businesses and artists who have a positive social and environmental impact on our local economy. The all-ages event features an evening packed with live music and entertainment, local food vendors, interactive art exhibitions, and an Indie Marketplace featuring local artisans. At the Oakland Indie Awards, the community will discover the independent businesses and artists who shape Oakland.

Winners of the Indie Awards across eight categories which include Oakland Soul, Youth Opportunity, High Road Employer, Ripple Effect, Innovative Newcomer, Greenie, Social Changemaker, and Pillar, will be announced and specially recognized for their contributions to Oakland's economy. These inspiring small businesses and artists were evaluated by over 42 Indie Awards judges and selected from over 225 nominees.

This year, the main stage will feature unique Oakland talent such as Mara Hruby, Mistah FAB, Quinn Deveaux, Maya Songbird, and more. Food, entertainment, and entry to the Indie Marketplace are all included in the $10 ticket price ($15 at the door).

"We're so excited to be in our tenth year of supporting local at the Oakland Indie Awards! This year's event, our love letter to Oakland, will pay special homage to those who've been in Oakland for a long time, doing great work, and who deserve recognition for their lasting impact," says Emma Guttman-Slater, Community Engagement Officer at Beneficial State Foundation. "We know the event is a success when people leave appreciating the wealth of good products and services they can find locally, right here in Oakland. See you at the Indie Awards!!"
