NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - U2 leads the latest class into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the hall's organizers announced yesterday (Dec. 13). U2 will also join Percy Sledge, The O'Jays, Buddy Guy and The Pretenders at The 20th Annual Induction Ceremony to be held March 14th in New York City.
U2 released their debut album Boy in 1980, and have sold millions of records in their lon career.

Other nominees including Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, the Sex Pistols, Patti Smith, The Stooges, Lynyrd Skynard, the J. Geils Band, and the late Conway Twitty were rejected for induction. To be eligible for induction, at least 25 years must pass since any nominee's first record was released.
The first induction ceremony was held in 1986. All inductees are represented in the "Hall of Fame," a permanent exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum, in Cleveland Ohio. The Museum contains the largest collection of rock and roll artifacts that chronicles the history of popular music.
