New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Brazilian fingerstyle guitar combines with hypnotic indie backbeats and melodic future-soul interludes on Lost In The Ebb, the new album from Santa Cruz band, Getaway Dogs. A melting pot of styles, the album draws influence from different parts of the world, while inviting rich contrasting harmonies into an atmospheric sound. The album is due out August 19.
Front-man and vocalist Kai Killion sites nature as a chronic inspiration for the bands music. Living in the Bay Area has its perks as Killion often takes the coastal back roads home, or simply nowhere at all. The sun-drenched vibes of Indonesia echo the crisp, natural scenery as an observation of places most people walk past without stopping. From the marching of the ants, to the fish in sea, the song personifies the plight of the everyday creatures and begs the question, are we really that different afterall?
Lost In The Ebb combines Killions vocals with the smooth, comforting voice of Samantha Stone. Together, Killion and Stone flow in a melodic rhythm like the ocean that inspires so many of their songs. Their blending of styles comes from a long line of influences. The son of a Californian artist and Brazilian immigrant, Killion was born in the States, but spent his baby years in post-war Eritrea before moving back to the Bay Area. All of these influences can be heard on songs like Wild Guess, an upbeat-meets-melancholy duet with a folk influence, and Paper Soul, one of the groups jazzier psychedelic numbers.
