Santana and Asdru
Sierra are known for their vocal activist viewpoints and wide array of musical styles, from Latin, funk, and hip-hop to everything in between. If you love music you can move to, smoke to, and vibe to, you lucked out, because this is for you.
Salvador
Santana defies convention and definition. His music transcends genres, and his talents traverse a number of terrains: keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter. Making music is in Salvadors blood. He began playing drums when he was 3 years old. Sitting in the lap of his legendary father, guitarist
Carlos Santana, Salvador would control the snare and tom while his father worked the hi-hat and kick drum. At age 6, he discovered his true love, the keyboard, while taking piano lessons. His love of music carried him through his education at the heralded Ruth Asawa High School of the Arts and later the California
Institute of the Arts. While often drawing comparisons to such artists as Common, Macklemore, and Ozomatli, his study, passion, and lineage honed his talent and transformed Salvador into a versatile musician in his own right.
Salvador has soaked in as much knowledge as he could from the blessings of his musical background, including co-writing the Grammy-winning El Farol from the 1999 smash album 'Supernatural.' Winning his first Grammy in 2000 for that composition was an explosive start to Salvadors career. Following 'Keyboard City' (2010) and 'Rise Up' (2013), 2015 brought the full-length release 'Fantasy Reality'. Inspired by the Walt Disney quote, When we do fantasy, we must not lose sight of reality, the albums eclectic tracks vary in subject matter yet all feature the common thread of his conscious and uplifting music at their core. For Salvador, 'Fantasy Reality' is a marriage between the juxtaposition of gritty and raw music with haunting themes and melodies combined with very positive and empowering lyrics and messages.
As part of Ozomatli, Asdru
Sierra garnered two Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album of the Year Grammy Awards, one Latin Grammy, three Latin Billboard Awards, three Alma Awards, a BMI Songwriting Award, and a Latin
Spirit Award for humanitarian efforts.
When not performing internationally with Ozomatli, or his passion project, Abstrakto,
Sierra is composing scores for feature films, television shows, big-budget commercials and video games.
His career collaborations are vast and impressive, and include greats like
Carlos Santana, Man,
Black Eyed Peas, Dave Stewart, A.B. Quintanilla, and Los Kumbia Kings.
Having travelled the world with his Latin rock, hip-hop, world, fusion, and funk-style music, Sierras performance highlights are as eclectic as his music. He has performed at SXSW, Coachella, and other events and collaborated with several prominent orchestras, including the New York Pops and
Boston Pops.
With Ozomatli, Asdru was the musical director, composer and arranger for Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias' Stand Up Revolution television series and the first band to speak at a TED conference.
He has also been a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S.
State Department with Ozomatli for the past decade, traveling throughout the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia, Eastern Europe, and many other places, representing our country by exchanging musical knowledge and learning from other cultures through music and art.
