New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Woodcraft Music) Nashville based indie band
Incognito Cartel is single-handedly bringing back the paisley underground sound with their psychedelic jangle pop debut CD release, "In a World Upside Down." The 7 song CD is releases today,
September 6. The worldwide release was preceded by a sold-out intimate live CD release party on
September 3 at Nashville's noted Ri'chard's Cafe.
Incognito Cartel is the featured act there on the first Saturday of every month.
"Incognito Cartel's sound is deeply rooted in the psychedelic rock and jangle pop bands of the '60s and '80s," said Woodcraft
Music spokesman
Douglas MacCormac. "Listeners have likened the sound to a blend of the Animals, Monkees, and the Byrds with
Tom Petty and the Stone Roses." The band released a sneak preview video of the title cut "
Upside Down" on their Facebook page, and it has received over 44,000 views in a matter of weeks.
Incognito Cartel is the brainchild of songwriters/guitarists Tom Templeman and Steve Rempis, who both desired to play in a band again after years of being indie songwriter/artists. They were quickly joined by Tom's wife, veteran bassist Terri Templeman, and mutual friend keyboardist/songwriter Don Gaylord, who is also the band's third songwriter. After a lengthy search for a drummer, the band hired Steve Holland, a well-respected
Music Row session and live drummer.
All songs on the CD are written or co-written by
Incognito Cartel's trio of writers. Several outside co-writers also contributed their talents: Maureen Croissant-Prairie (Upside Down); Troy Castellano, Randy Finchum,
Danny Traynor (Sometime After Sunset); and Jason McKeever (Pushing the Envelope). The band also wishes to acknowledge the following people for their efforts in this endeavor: Marv Treutel, for his hard work in engineering and producing; Christine Humphries, whose photography adorns the front, back and inside CD covers; and Beverly Wall, who designed the
Incognito Cartel logo on the front cover and on the CD itself.
Incognito Cartel can be seen live in the following locations:
