Led by saxophonist Doug Leaffer, Synergy is a five-man jazz group styled after the signature post-bop instrumental line-up of trumpet, tenor saxophone, piano, bass and drums. The resulting sound is an exciting blend of modern jazz, blues, swing, and Latin; a musical synergy – where the group's collective sound is greater than the sum of its musical parts.
The musicians of Synergy bring to the group a wide variety of musical performance experience ranging from Big Band to Brazilian and from Soul to Rhythm & Blues. Under the musical direction of Doug Leaffer, members of Synergy include trumpeter Bobby Gallegos, pianist Don Hemwall, bassist Mark Gehret and drummer Paul Marcantonio. Five musicians who have studied and performed with some of Boston's greatest jazz legends as well as with nationally-known jazz recording artists.
According to Leaffer, 'from its experimental beginnings in the mid-1990's as a piano-less trio, Synergy has expanded into a more mainstream quintet and developed a repertoire that reaches across the modern era of jazz and crosses over into Latin and the blues. We are excited to perform at the Acton Jazz Cafe' and present the music of Synergy to appreciative audiences in the Boston-Metrowest area.'
Synergy performed as the headline act at the Fall 2000 annual Jazz Harvest concert in downtown Lowell, Massachusetts and has appeared at Michael Timothy's Wine and Jazz Bar in Nashua, New Hampshire, at Zara Jazz and Blues Club in Worcester and at the Kirkland Cafe' in Somerville, Massachusetts.
The Acton Jazz Cafe' is one of the most highly regarded venues for live jazz and blues in New England. The cafe' is open six nights a week, hosting the best in local and national jazz musicians, accessible to all ages. The Acton Jazz Cafe' offers a full restaurant menu and bar in a casual, artistic atmosphere just 25 miles west of Boston, at 452 Great Road in Acton, Massachusetts.
