New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Miami born, Bushwick based female rapper
Madame Turk debuts music video "You're All Talk," a song about Hip Hop, heartbreak, and the power of speech. The single is available on iTunes HERE. The song, produced by Yoav Shemesh, is a throwback to the early days of Hip Hop, with its 80's retro future sound, and references to classic Hip Hop records. "Never has the importance of words and the power of speech been more relevant than it is at this very moment," Turk comments about the recent presidential election. While the upbeat whimsical song is light and fluffy, there is a more serious undertone, highlighted with lyrics like, "You betta mind the gap and the words you speak, words become flesh even better to eat." The sarcastic, sassy, self reflective song is an extension of the artist's character with its sharp wit and biting delivery. "My mom is a native New Yorker so I'd say her accent and attitude has definitely rubbed off on me." Turk's 90's music influences are present with a very clear female perspective, pulling from the likes of Salt-N-Pepa and Adina Howard. "We were also very inspired by the sound and style of Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" and MC Lyte's "Paper Thin." As a DJ, Turk has shared the bill with Hip Hop notables such as Raekwon, and the legendary DJ Kool Herc. "Hip Hop has always been a part of me and I've always been a part of Hip Hop."
The video concept comes from Bushwick based, Caroline Addie Symons, who recently directed Young Paris's "Best of Me" video featuring
Benjamin Bronfman. "It's important to highlight female directors in a very male driven industry," Turk relates. "Caroline said, 'bring your nightlife look to this quaint neighborhood in Ditmas Park, and we'll film the neighbors' reactions,' portrayed by my friends. The idea is that you're confident as you are, wherever you are."
While the retro 80's sound leans more towards kitsch, expect follow up singles like "
Get It On" and "I Can Do Bad" to be more contemporary club records with the tongue in cheek lyrics as the mainstay. "You're All Talk" is the lead single off
Madame Turk's upcoming EP, "Tongue N Chic" due early 2017 on Turk's independent label, Lytewerk.
