New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Following a banner year that includes a performance on NPR's World Cafe, dates with Gov't Mule, Blackberry Smoke, The Record Company, and Bob Weir, and appearences at SXSW and Mountain Jam, The Marcus King Band is preparing to hit the road for another year of aggressive touring. More information is available via his website; a full list of dates is below.
Late last year, King released his critically-acclaimed, self-titled sophomore album produced by his longtime hero Warren Haynes. The album was released via Fantasy Records and met with great acclaim from the likes of Relix, Guitar World and, No Depression. NPR called King "A formidable talent" and The Washington Post said "King is poised to be one of music's next great guitarists — a virtuosic talent capable of playing blues, rock, R&B, country, soul and established as a songwriter, singer and bandleader."
"Marcus is the first player I've heard since Derek
Trucks to play with the maturity of a musician well beyond his age," Haynes says. "He's very much influenced by the blues, but also by jazz, rock, soul music, and any timeless genre of music. You can hear the influences, but it all comes through him in his own unique way. He has one of those voices that instantly draws you in, and his guitar playing is an extension of his voice and vice versa."
Written entirely on the road and recorded during a series of sessions at Carriage House Studios in Stamford, CT, the album features Marcus King on lead vocals and guitar, Jack Ryan on drums and percussion, Stephen Campbell on bass, Matt Jennings on keys and organ, Dean Mitchell on saxophone, and Justin Johnson on trumpet, trombone and backing vocals. The album also includes a number of the band's mentors and collaborators, including Derek
Trucks (who plays guitar on "Self-Hatred") and Warren Haynes, who in addition to producing the album, adds his trademark slide guitar on "Virginia."
In early 2017, The Marcus King Band will kick off the year with a run of headlining dates, followed by a co-headline tour with The Eric Krasno Band. Additonal tour dates and festival appearances will be announced later this year.
