NEW YORK (Reunion)  Solo rapper K.E.V. has emerged as one of rap's most promising artists. He puts his love for writing poetry to good work throughout his impressive 'Street Trophy' album, which examines the often-grim realities that come with street life. K.E.V., who has seen the real-life cost of engaging in the streets, likens a tombstone to a street trophy.

K.E.V.'s ease on the microphone can be traced back to his upbringing. Born in Virginia and reared in Houston's rugged Fifth Ward, K.E.V. eventually settled with his father in Los Angeles, where K.E.V. would attend school with future rap star Kurupt. K.E.V.'s travels paid dividends, giving him perspective and allowing him to see the respect his family members had for one another.

K.E.V. put the same respect into his writing, eventually working with the Rap Mafia and releasing the 'Bring It To Your Face' album. Unfortunately, four of his partners have been killed since the release of that collection. "I owe this to them," K.E.V. says. "That's why you don't really hear no other rap artists on there."

K.E.V. makes a point to look at life's diversity throughout his album. The first single "Churrp," whose video will be directed by Dave Meyers (Missy Elliott, Janet Jackson, others), illustrates how integral phones have become in our lives. "Telephones are the issue right now," K.E.V. says. "They've got a new one every two weeks. With all the crazy ring tones and sounds, I wanted to play with it."

K.E.V. then flexes his poetry skills on the inventive "Life." Here, he uses each letter in "Life" to offer perspective on life. Elsewhere, on "Shuda Wuda Cuda" K.E.V. documents struggles he's overcome and "Crazy MF x2" comes off like a playful conversation.

'Street Trophy', which will be released by Centerline Music & Entertainment, establishes K.E.V. as hip-hop's next creative street poet. "I never want to do what the next man has already did or is doing," he says. "I want to do what hasn't been done, in the right and real way."

The single "Churrp" is available in an MP3 file. Please let us know if you'd like us to send it.
