New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Christina Johnston is said by many to be one of a kind in the music world. Despite her young age she is already making a name for herself in the classical sphere with a vocal range that most could only dream of. She has toured in Europe, Asia and South
America and counts Presidents and
State Officials amongst her biggest fans.
The stunning debut album 'Blessing' consists of a mix of highly popular opera arias plus some rarities that were totally suited to her high soprano voice. These include selections by Mozart, Rachmaninov, Puccini, Bellini, Dvorak, Gounod, Handel, Grieg, Johann Strauss, Canteloube and the notoriously difficult arias 'Der Hölle Rache' from The Magic Flute and 'Bell Song' from Lakmé by Delibes. On the album,
Christina displays her gift for languages by singing in no fewer than nine, including English, German, Latin, Russian, French, Italian, Czech, Norwegian and the French dialect Occitan.
"Christina is one of the few coloraturas that could sing the challenging 'Symphony of the Danube'" - Jan Žemla,
Director of Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra
At just age 18,
Christina was accepted with scholarship for The Guildhall School of
Music and Drama. During her time there she performed in numerous productions and concerts ranging from Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana to Verdi's Requiem and Bernstein's Candide. She has participated in master classes with such renowned opera singers as Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Renée Fleming, Emma Kirby and Yvonne Kenny, and competed in various competitions including the International Mozart Competition, the International Antoin Dvorak Competition and the
National Performing Arts Competition.
Meeting her future husband,
Slava Myachin, meant a move to Prague to pursue her opera career with studies at the
State Opera. It also meant that she had the opportunity to sing with conductors and orchestras all over
Europe as well as Asia and South America. Being that modern rarity - a high coloratura - meant
Christina became very much in demand in European opera houses and concert halls. Her fresh, pure voice also meant she was in demand for both concerts of contemporary classical composers and popular concerts of film and show music.
"Christina has the best voice for Film
Music in Rudolfinum Concert Hall. Her classical version of Titanic was the best I have heard!" - Nikola Bojcev, Organiser of Film
Music Prague
The album is released on a brand new label, TADLOW CLASSICS, which is a recent addition to the highly acclaimed and award-winning Tadlow
Music Label run by veteran film and classical music producer and orchestral contractor
James Fitzpatrick. Some 30 years ago,
James formed Silva Screen Records with his business partner Reynold da Silva and went on to great success with the discovery of soprano Lesley Garrett, which in a way started the 'classical crossover' movement. Since the formation of Tadlow Music,
James has worked on albums by some of the biggest names in this 'crossover' field including Katherine Jenkins,
Alexander Armstrong, Dame Vera Lynn, Ricky Martin, Michael Ball, Alfie Boe and many more.
