Catmedia Completes First Full-Length Woman-Produced Feature Film, Mnemosyne
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Historically, the movie and production business has predominantly been a man's world. The fact that a small woman-owned company has been able to finance, write, and produce a movie is phenomenal.
Exactly one year after first shooting the company's full-length feature film, CATMEDIA Entertainment has officially submitted Mnemosyne to the Sundance Festival for consideration. In addition to being the company's first narrative feature film, Mnemosyne is also a woman-produced film. The production of Mnemosyne and submission to Sundance marks the culmination of Downey's 30+year career in a male dominated industry.

"Historically, the movie and production business has predominantly been a man's world. The fact that a small woman-owned company has been able to finance, write, and produce a movie is phenomenal. Not just produce any movie, but produce and score a full-length feature film that we are proud of, and that we believe has a good chance of being accepted into the Sundance Film Festival," says Downey.

In 1997, Downey started CATMEDIA as a single mother of four with just a pad of paper and a pen. Since then, CATMEDIA has blossomed into a burgeoning, woman-owned business that specializes in creative services/media production, program management, training, and human resource management.

In the past year alone, CATMEDIA produced $20.2 million in revenue, was ranked among the Inc 5000 fastest-growing companies in America after ranking for three consecutive years in the Inc 500. Downey was named one of Atlanta's Women Who Mean Business and was the 2016 Georgia Small Business Person of the Year.

When asked about the challenges of producing an independent film, Downey says, "Being completely independent limits you in terms of budget, but frees you in terms of how you tell your story."

With Downey at the helm, CATMEDIA is prepared for the ride ahead. CATMEDIA Entertainment continues to keep the wheels turning as plans to develop and produce more works are already underway. As for the future of CATMEDIA Entertainment, Downey makes one thing undeniably clear, "This is our first feature film, but it certainly won't be the last. Y'allywood, here we come!"
