New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Bad Galaxy is the moniker of Brooklyn-based musician Alexis Pastuhov. With two full-length albums and two EPs already released under his own name, Pastuhov started Bad Galaxy in early 2017 to serve as a vehicle for a collection of songs with a new sound. His new self-titled album was recorded in various locations using a simple, two-channel interface and often nothing more than an SM58 microphone.
These twelve songs marks the start of a shift in identity. Assuming a new name provides separation, protection, and artistic freedom. It's another way to stand out and define oneself in a world that has seen it all. At the root of Pastuhov's shift to Bad Galaxy there is a basic desire for reinvention and self-discovery, an instinct to delve deeper and to explore creativity in new ways.
The songs on Bad Galaxy are Pastuhov's most ambitious to date. Mixing electronic elements, samples, and retro synth tones with organic instrumentation the arrangements are grander and the textures more varied. Stylistically the album takes many shapes, weaving from folk to grunge to experimental, with every song holding something new to discover upon each listen. Similar to past material, the mood of the album is dark and brutally self-aware. Pastuhov's words and dynamic voice are as sharp and poignant as ever.
Bad Galaxy is set for release on October 13, 2017.
