New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Alcopop! Records are delighted to announce the signing of Glasgow indie-pop quartet The Spook School who will release their eagerly anticipated third album Could It Be Different? on 26th January 2017.
Vocalist Nye Todd explains of the new track: "'Still Alive' is about no longer being in an abusive relationship. My tendency was to blame myself for not seeing the signs or leaving sooner which wasn't helpful or fair, so I wrote this song to try and force myself out of that mind-set.

"In a way it's a pretty angry song, with that anger being directed at people that carry out abusive behaviours towards others. I think there's a kind of pride in it as well though, recognition that you had the strength to get through a shitty situation and to do what you needed to do, and that you don't need to feel shame."

As the next confident step in their career, Could It Be Different? is a storming continuation of the band's knack for noisy, tuneful and triumphant queer pop songs about identity, sexuality and the self, citing influence from the likes of Buzzcocks, T-Rex and the noisier end of C86.

Commenting on the signing, label boss Jack Clothier said: "I was first made aware of The Spook School when I chatted to the immortal Sean from Fortuna Pop at some Record Fair or other, and he thrust a vinyl copy of Try To Be Hopeful into my arms. It looked wonderful, and it sounded even better, so we knew that when said label shone its last glimmering rays upon the world earlier this year, we had to try and work with the band. Luckily they said yes, and the rest is history (or to-be history at least). The new album is just absolutely wonderful, and we couldn't be more delighted to be in it together with Slumberland in the US <3 We can't wait for this one!"
Could It Be Different? is released 26th January 2017 via Alcopop! Records
