New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Chromeo aka The Funklordz aka the Canadian duo of childhood friends Dave 1 and P-Thugg may be selling out shows across the globe, amassing millions of streams and working with some of the biggest names in music, film and art, but they're not too big to remember where they came from. This year marks the 10th anniversary of their sophomore classic, Fancy Footwork (VICE / Atlantic). Unassumingly released in 2007, this record left an indelible mark on peers, critics and fans alike. It also established
Chromeo as a marquee band, leading them to top slots at Coachella, Osheaga, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Glastonbury plus countless headline show and their very own festival at Red Rocks. Fancy Footwork cemented Chromeo's status as post-nostalgic romantic crooners; revivalists of the sexy, danceable sounds of the 80s for the bloghaus age. By tapping the smooth, club-ready tones of Prince, Hall & Oates and Zapp, they filled a crucial void and offered a fresh perspective in the late-aughts dance music renaissance.
To commemorate this classic, the duo will be offering a limited edition release of the album pressed on 180g gatefold double white vinyl, including deluxe edition remixes by MSTRKRFT, Crookers, DJ Mehdi, and more, available exclusively on www.funklordz.net along with special edition merch bundles. To discuss their history, Fancy Footwork, and its lasting legacy, the group sat down in with The FADER for a look back on the career-launching album that spanned a decade's worth of influence.
Forever supporters of remix culture, the group will release all of the album's acappellas along with a brand new, official remix of the title track by Mr. Carmack on October 20th. Also look out for a limited edition zine in collaboration with Polanski.co to come in December. The publication will feature interviews with art directors
Surface To Air, the famed 60s photographer behind the Fancy Footwork cover Harri Peccinotti, the album's engineer
Philippe Zdar of
Cassius and more.
The pair have remained busy while working on their 2018 follow-up album, releasing the only official remix of Lorde's Green Light as well as selling out the 4th year of their Funk On The Rocks concert series at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Their most recent album White Women debuted at #1 on iTunes, with the hit "
Jealous (I Ain't With It)" breaking Top 40 Radio, earning close to 100 million combined streams and being proclaimed as 2014's "song of the summer" by the Huffington Post.
Stay tuned for more soon from
