New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Drake has tied the
Beatles as the only artists to have at least 20 Hot 100 top 10s in a single decade, Billboard announced on Friday. His latest releases, "God's Plan," which debuted at number 1, and "Diplomatic Immunity," which took the number 7 spot, broke the barrier for him this week:
Aubrey has tied a record previously solely held by The Beatles. Now, the 6 God and the famed English rock band are the only acts to have 20 singles reach the top 10 of the chart in a single decade, reports Billboard.
"
God's Plan" was a hit out of the gate, after Drizzy dropped the song with very little notice last month on the Scary Hours EP. The track broke a Spotify single-day streaming record after getting 4,326,679 streams in one day. It also broke a Apple Music's first-day streaming record with over 14 million plays.
Earlier this week, it was announced
Drake had surpassed
Jay-Z as the rapper with the most Billboard top 10 hits. Drake, who charted his first top 10 song in 2010, will surely break the tie with The
Beatles with two more years to do so.
Meanwhile, The
Beatles were the only other act to have accumulated that many Top 10s in one decade. While their record is ultimately slightly more impressive, as they hit 20 in a shorter span of time, starting in 1964 with "I Want to Hold Your Hand," Drake's accomplishment is nothing to sneeze. He'll have to work a little bit harder to match their 10-year-run record of 30 Top 10 hits by 2020, though. Also, while Drake's record is still spectacular, The
Beatles will always have at least one edge: Their Top 10s record is comprised mostly of No. 1 chart-toppers.
Also,
Drake is the only other act to have 20 Top 10s in a 10-year span, with the closest artist previously being
Mariah Carey in the 1990s with 19. 14 of her hits reached No. 1.
