NEW YORK (AP) - Carole King, Kiss, Russell Simmons, and Linda Moran have been announced as the recipients of the New York chapter of the Recording Academy's 2001 New York Heroes Award. The awards will be distributed at a BMI sponsored VIP gala at the Roosevelt Hotel on December 4. The proceeds from the event will be donated to charities supporting the families of the rescue workers who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York.
Presiding over the December 4 ceremonies will be Broadcast Music Inc. CEO Frances Preston, as well as Recording Academy president/CEO Michael Greene, New York chapter president Beth Ravin, and executive director Jon Marcus.

Greene provided additional insight into the honorees and the awards via a statement: "The New York Heroes Awards, one of the Recording Academy's most prestigious events, is once again demonstrating the New York's chapter commitment to service. All of the honorees have made contributions not just to our culture through their endeavors, but have also recognized that with their unique talents come the responsibility to give back to the community. Through this event, the New York chapter is raising funds to assist the New York heroes of the police, fire, and emergency services who so selflessly dedicated their lives to save their fellow New Yorkers."
