New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Piñata Protest is a well-known rock'n'roll quartet from San Antonio, Texas, that has distinguished itself by fusing traditional border music known as tex-mex with punk rock, and by giving the main role to the accordion. "Necio Nights" (Rock de Kasba) is their third album that will be taking them to Europe, but not before continuing their conquest through North American territory with a tour of more than 20 cities throughout the United States.
Piñata Protest was founded by the Mexican-born singer and accordionist Àlvaro Del Norte, accompanied by Richie Brown on electric bass and vocals, Chris-Ruptive on drums and vocals and Regino Lopez on the guitar. The quartet combines lively sounds and traditional melodies with upbeat tempos and a punk rock attitude to produce a unique and tremendous eclectic mix of wild but melodic songs sung in Spanish and English.
During the last decade, Piñata Protest has maintained a busy schedule touring through the United States, Canada and Mexico playing with artists such as The Reverend Horton Heat, Ramón Ayala, Guttermouth, Voodoo Glow Skulls,
Molotov and Brujería.
This third release features eleven original tracks that extend their musical adventure, exploring cumbia, huapango and norteño rhythms. The quality and musicality of the album captures a maturing band now fully rooted with its musical identity but that continues to explore and cross their boundaries without diminishing their energy in any moment.
The album also features a distorted guitar-charged version of ''Tragos Amargos'' by
Ramon Ayala, continuing the band's tradition to adapt a version just as they have before with 'Volver, Volver' on their sophomore album 'El Valiente' which brought a buzz to the band, landing the track into several soundtracks including 'Me Estas Matando Susana' starring the Mexican actor Gael García Bernal.
"Necio Nights" features several notable musical guests such as Juan Brujo of Brujeria, Mark Bush of Voodoo Glow Skulls,
Ruben Durazo of Tim Time Bomb and Boogaloo Assassins, and
Fredo Ortiz de Gogol Bordello and The Beastie Boys. The album was recorded at Pot O'Gold Studios in California by Dave Irish in a span of just three days; embodying in it almost all the energy of their devilish live concerts.
"Necio nights" is the perfect soundtrack to celebrate life and celebrate friendship, dancing until the end of the night and drinking tequila until the break of dawn.
