Bud Collins Trio - "Τelevision Personalities"
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Nowadays we hear a lot of criticism about the music that was produced within the last few years. The criticism is aimed mainly at the lack of instruments involved in the song, singers that are useful only in video and their voice has to be edited in order to make a good music piece out of it. There sure is lots of that kind of crap however there is good music out there too. The hard thing sometimes might be to find it. That´s what I can do for you if you like pop with a little bit of rock and jazz combined in it. Obviously these slight edges of different genres mixed in don´t change the songs completely but rather boost the enjoyment since you are not only listening to one genre strictly.

Last year the band "Bud Collins Trio" released a song called "Television Personalities" and the song is ideal for taking a break from the world and chill out a little. This band is not very famous yet since they have released only 71 tracks, but some of their pieces are surprisingly good for such an unknown band. Their style is very often compared to bands such as XTC, Steely Dan or even Pink Floyd. I personally would compare their music taste to an artist such as Josh Woodward who is neither so famous. Josh Woodward´s music is a little too hard for the Bud Collins Trio sometimes and because of the very soft and smooth voice of the main singer of the Bud Collins Trio I would say their music is slightly more relaxing however that is a very subjective point.

The instruments played within their band are on point especially in the song Television Personalities. The name of the band is very funny to me since it is not a trio and the guy after which the band is named is neither part of the band. There are about 7 band members but few decades back there were only two members. They are signed under a label called Dog in a sub. Their texts are not very long and I wouldn´t really call them a masterpiece to remember decades later however there might be a deeper context behind their writings that I don´t see. For example in the song Television Personalities the lyrics make complete sense to me and I see the good point they are making.

Overall the band is good for listening to songs for relaxation. Their voice is very soft and therefore very calming. Also the live instruments used in most of the songs are going to contribute to the enjoyment of the songs. Another pro is that when I have heard the song for the first time I already liked the rhythm which is not so usual. The downsides are the simple verses as I have mentioned before. I can definitely recommend this band if you like pop with a little bit of other styles mixed in.
