The Art Students League Of New York Announces An Auction Of Work By Its Masters
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) To celebrate the 125th anniversary of its landmark building on 57th Street, the Art Students League of New York announces an auction of artwork by its exceptional artist Instructors which will open online on May 1 and close at the kick-off event of its [STartUP] weekend celebration on Friday, May 11. Prospective buyers and art enthusiasts can compete for unique masterworks online and on-site until 9:30 pm on Friday, May 11.

Michael Rips, the League's new executive director, says "More than 50 artists who teach at the League are supporting our iconic institution are sharing the proceeds of their sales with the League's educational programs," which serve artists from beginners to those in mid-career. An avid collector himself, Mr. Rips believes that "League Instructors are among America's leading artists."

The Instructor auction will include abstract and realist paintings, prints and lithographs, mixed media and encaustic work, and sculpture and bronze pieces by artists Sigmund Abeles, Garin Baker, Bill Behnken, Martha Bloom, Leonid Brener, Frederick Brosen, Michael Burban, Sherry Camhy, Naomi Campbell, Dionisio Cimarelli, Susan Cirigliano, Sylvie Covey, Mariano del Rosario, Lisa Dinhofer, Harvey Dinnerstein, Bruce Dorfman, Henry Finkelstein, Marilyn Friedman, Leonid Gervits, Max Ginsburg, Dean Hartung, Marshall Jones, Silya Kiese, Gregg Kreutz, Ronnie Landfield, Haksul Lee, Simon Levenson, Michele Liebler, James Little, Margaret McCann, Mary Beth McKenzie, Frank O'Cain, Karen O'Neil, Tomomi Ono, Richard Pantell, Joseph Peller, Michael Pellettieri, Paula Poons, Peter Reginato, Ephraim Rubenstein, Doug Safranek, Seiji Saito, Wendy Shalen, Sharon Sprung, Kamilla Talbot, Dan Thompson, Thomas Torak, John A. The [STartUP] Reception and Auction will take place on May 11 from 7 PM to 10 PM. Attendees will be able to bid on artwork by the League's prominent Instructors both online and on-site. Silent auctions of work by League students, members, alumni, and young artists (ages 8-18) will run exclusively on-site, opening at the Reception and Auction and closing on Saturday, May 12 at 9:30 PM. "But It Now" pricing will be offered on all auction lots.

The auction of Instructor work will be managed online and on-site by Paddle8, an online marketplace for collectors which presents auctions of extraordinary art and objects to its global network of more than 600,000 members.

Attendees will also be able to explore the League's Permanent Collection, which will be on display all weekend. The collection includes works by Isabel Bishop, Alexander Calder, Will Barnet, James Rosenquist, William Merritt Chase, Charles Alston and more.

The [STartUP] weekend will also feature an Open House/Open Studios event Saturday, May 12 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There will be art-making events in all media for all ages and the public will have a chance to see inside the Landmark building where many of America's leading artists have studied and taught since the 19th century.
