New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Metallica's Kirk Hammett shredded-out a version of the US national anthem as the band attended a San Francisco Giants baseball game last night . The band were taking part in the sixth annual 'Metallica Night' as the Giants went up against the Washington Nationals.
Before drummer Lars Ulrich threw out the first pitch, Hammett plugged into his amp and let rip with a heavy rendition of the national anthem.
"We're blessed to be doing this every year and being a part of the vibe here," frontman James Hetfield said earlier this year, as reported by Revolver. "You know, when times are good, when times are bad, they need the support."
"It's a good opportunity for us to interact with our home team, hometown and interact with the people of the Bay Area in San Francisco," added Hammett. "And for me, it's a lot of fun to be able to play the national anthem."
Some proceeds from 'Metallica Night' went to All Within My Hands - the band's own foundation, which offers help to various charities. Individual band members also support them and donate to music education programs and food banks.
