Julie Roberts, Country Music Star & Patient Advocate, To Perform At CMSC Annual Meeting
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The flood rescue in 2010 made me realize that I needed to manage my MS, adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle, and show others that the disease does not define who you are or stop you from pursing your dreams."

The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) is thrilled to announce that country music star and MS patient advocate, Julie Roberts, will be participating at its Annual Meeting, May 30 - June 2, at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN. Roberts first single, Break Down Here, was a Billboard Top 20 Hot Country Song, and she has sold millions of albums as well as appeared with some of the biggest names in country and pop music.

At the CMSC Annual Meeting, Roberts will perform some of her music at the opening John F. Kurtzke Memorial Lecture and luncheon on Wednesday May 30th. She will also perform at the CMSC Awards Reception on Friday, June 1st. During the Annual Meeting she will be in the exhibit hall to share her inspiring story of overcoming physical and emotional adversities as well as a catastrophic natural disaster to live her best life and excel in her career. Roberts will also attend some of the CMSC Annual Meeting sessions to learn about the latest in MS treatment and research.

In 2005, Roberts was diagnosis with MS while recording her second album. For a number of years, she was in denial of her diagnosis and didn't begin a disease modifying treatment. "I thought if I ignored my MS it would go away," said Roberts. On May 1, 2010, when she and her family lost everything in the Nashville flood and had to be rescued by boat, Roberts realized she was given another chance at life.

"The flood rescue made me realize that I needed to manage my MS, adopt a healthy and positive lifestyle, and show others that the disease does not define who you are or stop you from pursing your dreams."

Roberts also stresses the importance of finding a neurologist and healthcare team that you trust and feel comfortable with in order to have an on-going honest and non-judgmental relationship.

"Julie Roberts is living proof of the mission of the CMSC and its Annual Meeting -- to present MS healthcare teams with the latest information and tools to provide optimum care to those living with MS," said June Halper, CEO, CMSC. "We are excited to have Julie at our conference to entertain and share her MS journey with our attendees."

Roberts' newest album, I Think You Know, builds a bridge between the sounds that shaped her past and the resilience that fuels her present. She is a survivor and the album produced by Shooter Jennings tackles her challenges head-on, with Roberts singing about love, loss, roots, and redemption. Her inspiring life story "Beauty in the Breakdown, Choosing to Overcome'" will be published by Harper Collins in September.
