Ottmar Liebert Comes To Spencer Theater 6/3
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The richly atmospheric music of guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his multi-instrumental band, Luna Negra (Dark Moon), is described as Spanish gypsy with contemporary grooves. Its the perfect music for a hot summer's night at the Spencer Theater for the Performing Arts, where Liebert and his band will be performing at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 3. Excellent seats are available for $39-$59. Call the Spencer Box Office at 575.336.4800 or go online at www.spencertheater.com for tickets.

The platinum selling, Grammy-nominated Liebert carved out the genre of Nuevo Flamenco nearly 30 years ago with his mysterious instrumentals - an engaging mix of subdued flamenco guitar and South American percussion with rock, jazz, Hindu and pop influences. His compelling tunes- especially the innovative "Barcelona Nights" - made Liebert an immediate sensation and his sound a favorite among guitar enthusiasts the world over. His first album, released on Higher Octave Records, sold double-platinum and has become the biggest-selling guitar album of all time, and became the source of creative inspiration for dozens of fellow guitarists.

The German-born artist, who makes his home in Santa Fe, has said that "flamenco is a music both romantic and dangerous; it is an attitude as much as it is a musical genre." The dangerous element is apparent in his incredibly cool performance style and enigmatic stage presence. He oftentimes appears barefoot while in concert, quietly seating himself on the floor and without any words, delves into his complex compositions on both the Flamenco guitar and electric guitar as Luna Negra jams the rich supporting instrumentals (Jon Gagan on upright bass, bass guitars and keyboard; Davo Bryant on cajon, djembe and percussion and Stephen Duros on Flamenco guitar and keyboard).

Liebert has recorded 29 CD's, a number of which he also produced, including the top selling Opium, La Semana, The Santa Fe Sessions, Nouveaumatic and One Guitar. He is an industry icon with 38 Gold & Platinum awards, 5 Grammy nominations and scores of imaginative songs. Billboard magazine has twice honored him as New Age Artist of the Year.

From rumba to Bossa Nova to classical to lullabies, Liebert has explored and expanded them all, putting his exotic stamp and aesthetic spin on each new tune. He is without question one of the most influential artists on the new world scene, bringing flamenco to mainstream America with a natural elegance and authenticity.
Catch Liebert's groove live in concert at the Spencer! Sponsored in-part by Dixie Edwards & Dale W. Ek. A pre-show pastor bar buffet ($20) is available at 6 p.m.

The Summer Season 2018 is sponsored in part by The Hugh Bancroft Jr. Foundation, Eleganté Lodge & Suites, KOBR Channel 8, MTD Media, Walton Stations of New Mexico with additional season support from, Inn of the Mountain Gods, Ruidoso Ford-Lincoln, R.D. & Joan Dale Hubbard Foundation, Su Casa Magazine, Rainmakers Resort & Club, Comcast Spotlight, KEDU 102.3 FM Big Oldies, Burt Broadcasting, Majestic Communications, Ruidoso.net, and First National Bank of Ruidoso.

Spencer Theater is a world-class performance hall located in the Sacramento Mountain settlement of Alto, about 12 miles north of downtown Ruidoso. Unique architecture, outstanding acoustics, intimate seating, and excellent artistry are the Spencer's celebrated features. The elegant, award-winning hall, which first raised its curtains in 1997, seats 514, with no seats farther than 67 feet from the 4,770 square-foot stage. The Spencer also has a 964 square-foot outdoor stage that can seat 1,500. From its Spanish mica-flecked limestone face to the crystal lobby, the building itself is a work of art. Free public tours are offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year.
