NEW YORK (AP) - Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard was sentenced to two years in prison in Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday (Oct. 12) for possession of body armor, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney's office.

The rapper, already serving two-to-four years in the New York State Correctional Institute for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree (allstar, July 18 ), will be allowed to serve the new sentence concurrently with his New York sentence beginning Friday. ODB also will receive close to a year's credit for time already served in Los Angeles jails.

The Los Angeles charges stem from his fleeing a Southern California drug treatment center in 2000 (allstar, Oct. 25, 2000 ), which was a violation of ODB's original sentence stemming from a 1999 conviction of felony charges of wearing a bulletproof vest. ODB was the first person convicted under a recent California state law that forbids convicted felons from wearing body armor. Since rehab didn't work out, the judge in the case felt State Prison would.

ODB - real name Russell Tyrone Jones - is eligible for parole on both his California and New York sentences in 2002. Meanwhile, Elektra Records recently cashed in on its clients unavailability to record new material by issuing The Dirty Story: The Best of Ol' Dirty Bastard.
