New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Darrell Kelley is a man who is about food. I am not just speaking about food that you eat. He has that covered of course, if you know about his thriving restaurant "Soul Delicious ". It feeds the people of his home state of GA. In his capacity of feeding the people, he offers many delicious choices. But it is his spiritual food for your ears and your soul where he offers you the classic combo of your meat and 3's.
While listening to Darrell's EP "Storm is Coming" on YouTube I came across some videos that contained some other songs worth mentioning. The first side Darrell offers up in his music that filled me up to the point I wanted to kick back and undo the top button, was a song called "Be Great". One of this reviewer's passions in life is appreciating those who choose to set the bar a little bit higher for themselves. "Be Great" does just that. The slow steady drum is the heartbeat that drives the body of the message. The second part of enjoying the notes of this meal is the great questions that Darrell asks in this song. He hits upon the questions that every person with their eye on the spiritual ends up asking.
The thing I enjoy about Darrell's questions is that he knows God will give the correct answer on his own time, not your own impatient time line. This is someone who plants seeds and creates the conditions to allow those seeds to grow. When they do grow to maturity. as in the track "Be Great", what you get is a finely formed vegetable, not some skinny broke string bean. As with any farmer there can be some weeds in the garden. Sometimes the voice can weave in and out of tune, but I am not sending it back to the kitchen. Darrell continues this vibe on his EP release "Storm is Coming".
Bishop Kelley seems to understand better than some that there are always dark clouds and lightening and rain headed for your spiritual life and you had better build your shelter with the words of God. He then takes us into the song "Man of God", which lightens the mood considerably. It has that musical bounce that puts some glide in your stride and praise be. After that, I think the Bishop was trying to have some fun with his messaging to get out of the spiritual and add a little secular wisdom about marriage. It is nice and breezy and has some real flashes of humor, but I am not 100% sure that the wife shall appreciate it. Overall, there is a lot to praise on the release. I am looking forward to the next storm of music this high energy artist is going to rain down on our community.
