Chicks Dig Me exemplify Hooks' musical development over the decades as a musician and songwriter. He explains, "The songs on
Chicks Dig Me are 'story songs'. I aimed for three minutes of escapism. Listeners can forget their worries and enjoy themselves and if they can dance, well that's a bonus!"
Key tracks on
Chicks Dig Me include "Call Me Frosty," with its fast moving, retro-rock style, hard hitting brass lines and Rev. Bubba D. Liverance's strong vocal prowess. "Let Me Break It Down" is a slower-tempo piece, with a heartfelt theme, showing the Reverend can indeed write in almost any style. "Be My Sugar" is already on the charts, with a Beach
Music and pop-flavored appeal, it proves with a pun - Hooks can write hooks.
Mike Hooks composed and arranged all eight tracks on
Chicks Dig Me. He also relied heavily on the talents of collaborator Sam Hankins, a three-octave tenor, who did all the background vocal arrangements.
