New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today Portland, OR-based singer-songwriter John Craigie announced his #KeepItWarm2018 tour. On each date of his 19 city national tour Craigie is partnering with local groups that support the homeless in their community -- one dollar from each ticket sold will go to a local nonprofit, and at each show volunteers will collect jackets, gloves, hats, scarves, tents, sleeping bags, and other supplies from fans.
"I see homelessness everywhere I go, and I meet all kinds of people who have been affected by it," says Craigie. "It's not as cut and dry as some people think it is, and it can affect people from all kinds of backgrounds. Also, as a traveler I know how important it is to have a roof over your head and something warm when you don't have that on your own."
Craigie truly has a unique live performance; between nearly each song of the set, there's a "bit" he's written that thematically leads into the next track. This moved Seattle alt weekly The Stranger to dub him "the lovechild of
John Prine and Mitch Hedberg."
His songwriting and performance style has audiences and various famous folks alike. Most notably he caught the attention of
Jack Johnson when his live LP Capricorn in Retrograde… Just Kidding… Live in Portland landed in Johnson's car stereo during a California coastal road trip. Immediately becoming a fan, Jack reached out and Craigie soon found himself opening for him. "I was inspired to start the #KeepItWarm2018 tour after touring with Jack," Craigie says. "I got to see how he was able to use his music to entertain as well as spread a good message and get people to help out. I saw how his fans wanted to pitch in and were grateful to have guidance in how to do that."
Earlier this year, Craigie released his albums LIVE: Opening for Steinbeck and Scarecrow, which earned praise from The Boot, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Glide Magazine, and more. Craigie will also play AmericanaFest on
September 14th.
