New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today, LANY release their second album Malibu Nights through Polydor/Universal Music. Malibu Nights is the follow-up to the LA-based alt-pop trio's acclaimed self-titled 2017 debut. These are euphoric, epic anthems from one of modern-pop's most dynamic bands, a captivating coming together of joyous pop hooks and tender ballads. "It's devastating but also really hopeful and optimistic," says frontman Paul Klein.
LANY's original plan for 2018 was to recover from an intense 2017. But Klein (piano, guitar), Les Priest (keyboards, guitar), Jake Goss (drums, samples) are no good at being idle. Instead, the frontman spent the first six weeks of the year crafting the nine songs that would make up their second album before heading into Conway Studios, LA, with his bandmates and producer Mike Crossey to record them. "I wanted to come into 2018 trying everything. I wanted to spend those two months as an experimental, fun time. But I just wound up writing album two," says Klein.
The aim was to become a band, as Klein puts it, who "write global, universal songs, lyrically and sonically." They have talent to match their ambition. Malibu Nights is an exhilarating pop record, the work of a band truly coming into their own. First single Thru These
Tears typifies the varied strengths of Klein's songwriting on Malibu Nights: emotionally honest, universal, uplifting. Opening track Thick And Thin glides on a wave of evocative, classic eighties-style synth washes, the arresting Taking Me Back is grandiose and hopeful, whilst I Don't Wanna Love You Anymore, the second track to be released from Malibu Nights, glows with intimate imagery. Let Me Know, written with rising London writer and artist SJ Lewis (AlunaGeorge), is a tender soul ballad. The album rounds out with the title track. A spartan piano ballad, Malibu Nights showcases Klein's vocals at their most up-close and rawest.
LANY's songs have been streamed over 1 billion times and their debut album campaign involved playing 135 shows in 28 countries to some 100,000 fans. As Klein says: "On top of writing great songs, we put a big importance on delivering live. Our shows are really unique and special to us. It's about putting on something unforgettable." LANY are about to hit new peaks. A thrilling second chapter awaits.
