New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Selecter is excited to return to the US and hit the West Coast this fall for 11 shows with special guest DJ Rhoda Dakar. The band will be playing an extended, hit-rich set with additional live favorites and a few surprises. They will be joined for a few songs by Rhoda Dakar on vocals who will also play a DJ set to open the shows. The tour kicks-off on October 31st at the Regent Theatre in Los Angeles, hitting cities like Portland, Seattle and San Francisco before wrapping with a second show at The Casbah in San
Diego on November 14th (added by popular demand, with the first show selling out months in advance).
The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman
Pauline Black and co-fronted by original member Arthur "Gaps" Hendrickson. The band most recently toured the US last Summer with
Rancid and Dropkick Murphys, and
Pauline Black toured in Latin
America as a special guest with Damon Albarn's Gorillaz. In October 2017 The Selecter released their newest full-length studio LP Daylight - their most urgent, politically engaged and purely uplifting record since the days of Too Much Pressure and Celebrate The Bullet - and this summer the band released Live at the Roundhouse - a live album recorded during The Selecter's highly successful 2017 world tour. Not only a crucial figure in the music community,
Black is also a published author, gifted actress, and a celebrated style icon. Earlier this year VOGUE noted
Black as an inspiration for Duro Olowu's new fall collection and followed in June with a feature on
Black (read HERE), discussing her "Rude Girl" style, who has influenced her, how her style has evolved and her connection to cutting edge designers Art Comes First.
Rhoda Dakar's career began as the lead vocalist of all-woman 2-Tone band The Bodysnatchers who previously toured with The Selecter. The Bodysnatchers first single was double A-side "Let's Do Rocksteady" with "Ruder Than You". Rhoda also later sang and collaborated with The Specials. 2-Tone was a crucial multi-racial, multi-cultural explosion borne out of Coventry and the Midlands that remade British pop from 1979 onwards. Although 2-Tone's commercial appeal was largely limited to Europe, it did influence the North American ska punk scene and has been cited by a variety of artists from
No Doubt to
Madonna as being influential to their music.
The Selecter continues to release music, charting new albums in the UK over the last couple of years and proving that 2-Tone is still as relevant and important as it was 40 years ago. Be sure to catch The Selecter on tour this fall with special guest DJ Rhoda Dakar and stayed tuned towww.theselecter.net for all up-to-date information on new music and tour dates.
