New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Donald Glover announced that his current This Is
America tour would be his final tour as Childish Gambino. Now, he seems to be directing his efforts toward film— pivoting to video, if you will.
Glover's second annual Pharos festival — which he described as "a gathering of the five intuitives of the human experience: tribe, ritual, experience abstraction, architecture, language" — took place over the weekend in New Zealand. A surprise trailer for his and Rihanna's new project,
Guava Island, premiered last night.
On Saturday night (Nov. 24), during his 2018 Pharos Festival in New Zealand, Gambino shared the trailer for the upcoming film the two entertainers are co-starring in, which is believed to be titled
Guava Island.
During a break in the action, the trailer played for all in attendance to see on the big screen behind the stage. The trailer shows Donald Glover and
Rihanna as a young couple living in a tropical location. The Atlanta creator appears to be playing the role of a struggling musician who is trying to find his way when he runs into trouble in paradise.
"We live in paradise but none of us actually have the time or the means to live here," he says in one scene.
The movie is directed by Gambino's frequent collaborator Hiro Murai and will also co-star Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie. Not much else is known about the upcoming flick.
Gambino is returning to form after breaking his foot in September. The artist's This Is
America Tour is slated to return to action on Dec. 2 following a hiatus while Glover was on the mend. Gambino is rumored to be headlining 2019 Coachella along with
Kanye West and Justin Timberlake. Check out the trailer for Glover's new film co-starring
Rihanna below:
