New York, NY (Top40 Charts) 8x Grammy nominated Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie has announced details of a
Spring 2019 headline tour in support of their critically acclaimed ninth studio LP, "Thank You for Today." The tour announcement comes accompanied by a remix of "Summer Years" from none other than Ben Gibbard's
Postal Service bandmate Jimmy Tamborello (listen here). In his first ever remix of a Death Cab for Cutie song, Tamborello infuses the track with a pulsating beat and his characteristic electronic elements.
The band's North American dates begin March 29th at Las Vegas, NV's The Joint and continue through April (see attached itinerary). Death Cab for Cutie pre-sales begin Wednesday, December 5th at 10 AM local time. All remaining tickets will be released to the general public on December 7th at 10 AM local time. After cracking the Top 20 at Adult Alternative radio, "
Northern Lights" continues to ascend the
Modern Rock charts. Continuing a run of high-profile TV performances, the band recently performed the track on "The Late Late Show with
James Corden," following appearances on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and "The
Ellen DeGeneres Show."
"Thank You for Today" - which also includes acclaimed tracks "Autumn Love" and "I Dreamt We Spoke Again - received additional praise from Entertainment Weekly, which declared the album to be "a poignant return to form for the band. Debut single "
Gold Rush" ascended to #1 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart in just its fifth week of release - the band's quickest-ever rise to the top at the format and their ninth single to reach #1 at the format. It was greeted with a tremendous response from fans and critics upon its spring release, with Stereogum heralding the track "one of the best Death Cab singles in recent memory," and NPR declaring: "Death Cab for Cutie is back with some pretty great new music." The track came accompanied by a companion visual, directed by Alex Southam (alt-J, Mumford & Sons).
"Thank You for Today" was produced and mixed by Rich Costey (Fiona Apple, Franz Ferdinand, Muse), following his previous collaboration with Death Cab for Cutie on the band's 2015 GRAMMY® Award-nominated "KINTSUGI."
Ahead of the
Spring 2019 dates, Death Cab for Cutie will embark on a series of European and Australian headline shows and festival performances. The run begins January 24th at Dublin, Ireland's landmark Olympia Theatre and then makes stops across the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Australia, and New Zealand.
The band will also participate in a "12 Days of Christmas" fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, in which they encourage fans to make a donation and help make a difference this holiday season. Donations of any denomination to the American Cancer Society help the organization with its efforts in leading the fight for a world without cancer.
