On NOLA - the title inspired by a photograph taken during a 2017 tour to the Big Easy - Bleach Party sheds their previous garage rock leanings for an edgier, punchier guitar-driven sound. Drawing inspirations from bombastic '70s classic rock, the urgency of early '80s punk, and a dash of '90s alt rock, Bleach Party play to their strengths on NOLA. Drummer Kaylee Preston's thunderous-and-airtight beats, guitarist Bart Pappas' spirited licks, and bassist Richard Giraldi's thick but playful low end power frontwoman Meg MacDuff's earnest anthems. MacDuff's tongue-in-cheek lyricism documents personal experiences and encounters from relationships ("Tom Cruise Control") to UFOs ("Talkin' Bout UFOs"), and her words are only matched by her powerfully dynamic vocals, which take center stage here. No Vacancy" is a chugging live-in-the-moment anthem that finds the band channeling their inner Buzzcocks, while "Entertain Yourself" is an ode to childhood imagination in the shape of a big Who-esque rocker.
