The Artemis Women In Action Film Festival (AWIAFF) Announces Official Selections
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Artemis Women In Action Film Festival is proud to announce official selections for the Fifth Edition. Each year film submissions are astounding, and in 2019, Artemis offers a compelling variety of narrative features, documentaries, shorts, and screenplays with great stories that uphold the festival's mission. Artemis' Fourth Edition showcased incredible films with timely themes focused on great storytelling, action, and most importantly strong female characters, roles, and physical abilities. This year's Official Selections has prominent documentaries that focus on the underrepresentation of women directors and women filmmakers in the movie industry. The focus on gender parity and equality, and other sensitive but timely topics also make a strong presence this year. And the variety of films that span all situations is broad with action, thrillers, sci-fi, comedies, drama, and more.

"We are so excited to share an edition with a global variety of stories about empowered and powerful women ranging from narrative genres of all types, featuring incredible women of all kinds to groundbreaking documentaries that push the needle on the front of equality and cultural perceptions of women from past to present." -Melanie Wise, Artemis Women In Action Film Festival Director

Notable Documentaries:
1) Included in this 2019 schedule is "This Changes Everything," directed by Tom Donahue which is a groundbreaking film, featuring industry luminaries, discussing the importance of women in filmmaking. Highlights include interviews with Geena Davis, Zoe Saldana, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchet, Paul Feig, and Natalie Portman.

"The door has to be opened. We just want inclusion. Progress will happen when men take a stand; it's the chivalry of the twenty-first century." -Meryl Streep, "This Changes Everything"

2) "Seeing Is Believing" is a documentary written and directed by Cady McClain, featuring intimate conversations with female directors who use their voices to tell stories that matter to them. Top-ranking directors include Lesli Linka Glatter, Lee Grant, Leslie Hope, Sarah Gavron, Joanna Kerns, and others.

3) The action documentary "Stuntwomen the Untold Hollywood Story" is a sneak peek about the evolution of stuntwomen from "The Perils of Pauline" (1914) and beyond, narrated by Michelle Rodriguez, featuring Paul Feig, and showcasing some of the very best stuntwomen the industry has known.

Highlighted Shorts:
1) "Rise of the Catwoman" is Chapter 1 and birthed from the original web series that follows Selina Kyle who grew up in an orphanage and became a street-level cat burglar on her journey for revenge. Joining an outstanding cast, Lee Meriwether, the "Catwoman" from the first "Batman" movie in 1966 is in this action short.

2) With a highly recognizable cast, including herself—actor/writer/director Alicia Coppola ("Young and the Restless," "NCIS"), Gil Bellows ("Ally McBeal," "Shawshank Redemption"), Elaine Hendrix ("Joan of Arcadia," "Anger Management"), and Rebecca Field ("A Star Is Born")—the drama "Between Us" explores true life and the magic of the parent/child connection even in death.

Highlighted Features:
1) Written by Daren Longley and directed by Bailey Kobe "Rag Doll" is an actioner about a girl who dedicates her life to help her family but takes one hour a day for herself (to escape her reality) as she works out at the local, mixed martial arts gym. "Rag Doll" features Dot Marie Jones ("Glee," "American Horror Story") and Stephanie Erb ("Young and the Restless," "Bosche," "Ray Donovan").

2) "Woodstock or Bust" is a feature about two seventeen-year-old singer/songwriters traveling cross-country from the West Coast to perform at Woodstock. This film is written and directed by Leslie K. Bloom with actor Willow Shields (Hunger Games).
