New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Escape the norm and get a taste of something different with Blas: 5x5 (Thursday, 21 March, 7pm, BBC
Radio Ulster) the new and 'unofficial' world chart that plays five Number One songs from five different countries around the world.
With hits like Despacito by Luis Fonsi, Gangnam
Style by PSY and Mi Gente by J Balvin, proving that non-English language songs can go global, Blas: 5x5 will bring you the chart-toppers that otherwise you may never get to hear.
Over the next few weeks, presenters Proinsias Ó Coinn,
Tessa Fleming and Caoimhe Ní Chathail will pick their favourite song to hit the top spot in countries from Cambodia to Bolivia and from Greenland to the Ukraine.
Tessa says: "We've been thinking of doing a programme like this for a while because of the unbelievable success songs from other countries like Japan, Greece and Finland can have, and we just don't know about it.
"Since we kick-started the idea, we've been immersing ourselves in the world's Number One music hits, and we can't wait for them to be heard by new ears."
Proinsias says: "I've dated guys from different countries around the world and have a lot of friends from mainland Europe, so often hear what songs are big in their countries.
"As much as I love a lot of what's in the mainstream charts, I feel we're missing out on the wealth of music that is out there in so many languages - well not anymore!"
Caoimhe adds: "Music is such a huge part of life wherever you go. I love listening to the radio when I'm abroad and I'm very excited to bring some of those brilliant songs back home to BBC
Radio Ulster listeners."
