Vinylthon Is Saturday, As 140 Radio Stations Will Go Vinyl-Only For Charity
New York, NY (Top40 Charts / College Radio Foundation) Across the US and the world, radio stations will celebrate the unique format of vinyl by going vinyl-only on Vinylthon, April 13th, 2019. Artists such as Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, Mike Peters from The Alarm, and the legendary Darlene Love have recorded material for radio stations to play on the air as part of this year's celebration.

Radio Stations from ten countries will commit to playing at least one hour of vinyl on April 13 for Vinylthon 2019. Some stations will play vinyl for the whole 24 hours in the fourth annual Vinylthon event for the radio industry that celebrates the unique format of vinyl music and also takes place on worldwide Record Store Day.

Open to all radio stations, commercial and non-commercial, Vinylthon is the radio industry's response to the remarkable vinyl renaissance that has occurred around the world. The event reminds audiences that radio still loves vinyl and many stations never stopped playing it.

The event is being organized by the College Radio Foundation, a non-profit organization that gives grants to college radio stations to help keep them on the air. Vinylthon 2019 will be the fourth Vinylthon event, and all proceeds go to their College Radio Fund that gives monetary grants to those college radio stations that need it the most.

Mustaine joins other artists in the last three years that have also supported the annual Vinylthon event such as Judas Priest, Don McLean, Dee Snider, Sevendust, Daniel Lanois, and The Lumineers to name just a few who have provided content for Vinylthon. The organizers of Vinylthon also provide special on-air content for participating stations.

Founder of Vinylthon, Rob Quicke, says, "This event is for all radio stations and it's a fun day for both listeners and broadcasters alike. Many people are still passionate about the magic of vinyl, and broadcasting radio shows using only records is an amazing, hands-on experience for many of today's radio broadcasters." Quicke is also GM at WPSC 88.7 FM at William Paterson University of New Jersey, which won the 2018 Marconi Radio Award for Non-Commercial Radio Stations.

Participation in Vinylthon is free for non-commercial radio stations, but there is a requested donation for commercial radio stations that goes straight to the College Radio Fund. "Commercial radio stations that participate are paying it forward to the next generation of professional broadcasters who really need the support," says Quicke.
