Sophie Auster, "The Sound Of New York" (D La Repubblica), Releases 'Next Time' On Fieldhouse/BMG
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Today, Brooklyn's own Sophie Auster releases 'Next Time' (Fieldhouse/BMG). The record is preceded by three singles: "Mexico," "Dance With Me," and "Rising Sun." 'Next Time' is the NYC-based singer-songwriter's first record in four years, following 2015 effort 'Dogs and Men.' After a small run of shows in the U.S., she will take her ethereal, cerebral folk pop to Europe in support of the record.

Produced in the solitude of the Swedish countryside by Tore Johansson (New Order, Tom Jones, a-Ha) 'Next Time' was written in 2016 and marks a first for the "sultry chanteuse" (NYT), who had never before recorded outside North America. The tracks became colored by the stillness and reflection of her surrounding landscape, with Auster crafting lush orchestral fantasies of affairs abroad ("Mexico"), poetic remembrances of heartbreak ("Black Water") and reflections on a unified ecstatic love ("Dance With Me") threaded together by her haunting voice.

The record's first single "Mexico" will be featured in John Turturro's new film, 'Going Places,' a spinoff of 'The Big Lebowski,' centered around the notable character Jesus Quintana. The film also stars Audrey Tautou, Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon, and Pete Davidson.

The daughter of writers Paul Auster and Siri Hustevdt, Auster has inherited her parent's sense of poetry and carved a path for herself as a songwriter, receiving several awards abroad and at home including the 2016 Grand Prize at The John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She was named "Singer of the Year" by Cosmopolitan Spain, and has graced its cover as well as those of Rolling Stone Spain and D la Repubblica, the latter proclaiming Auster "the sound of New York."
