New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Clare Bowen - the Nashville-based Australian singer/songwriter known for her role as
Scarlett O'Connor on CMT/Hulu's - announces her self-titled debut solo album, out July 12th on BMG. The album showcases Bowen's "gorgeous" and "personal" songwriting (Rolling Stone) as she sings about life's tragedies and triumphs with heartfelt candor.
Produced and partially co-written by Josh Kaufman (Bob Weir, The National, The Hold Steady), 'Clare Bowen' includes contributions from musical heavyweights including
Amy Wadge (Ed Sheeran's "
Thinking Out Loud"), Wyatt Durrette (Zac Brown Band), Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift) and Lori McKenna. Bowen also worked on the album with husband and longtime collaborator
Brandon Robert Young, who co-wrote the majority of the album with her.
Bowen is no stranger to struggle - she survived what doctors thought was a deadly cancer diagnosis at age 4, and her younger brother Timothy beat a similar diagnosis in 2015. But the songs on 'Clare Bowen' confirm what fans of the singer, songwriter and actress have known for years - that Bowen's personal tragedies have only strengthened her innate ability to find light in moments of impossible darkness, and to share that light with others.
Album opener "
Let It Rain" is a triumphant and soulful anthem about surviving life's hardships and letting go of fear. "All The Beds I've Made" is a tender tribute to husband Young, and "Tide Rolls In" featuring
Buddy Miller is a driving song about the inevitability of change - but the emotional peak of the record is gut-wrenching ballad "Warrior."
"I grew up in a children's hospital. A ways into writing the album, I realised I'd never written a song about the children that I lived with, most of whom didn't get to grow up because we were in a terminal ward," says Bowen of the inspiration for the song. "One of us passed away every single day. I watched a lot of children fight through hardships that no person should ever have to endure, and yet they were so incredibly brave. No matter what your troubles are, I want the ones who are still here to know they are not alone, and the ones that had to go on the next adventure early, that they will never, ever be forgotten."
Bowen was a fixture on Nashville for all 6 seasons of the cult favorite show. During its time on air, the show inspired 22 soundtracks - including a Christmas album - which have collectively sold more than one million album units and over five million single-song downloads to date. Bowen and the cast of Nashville toured the globe between seasons selling legendary venues including Royal Albert Hall and London's O2 Arena, and following the show's final episode, Bowen and Young hit the road with Sugarland, opening for the group on their 'Still The Same' tour.
Bowen will embark on her own headlining tour this summer, including stops in NYC and Chicago, in addition to a special hometown show at Nashville's City Winery. Clare will also be hosting a pre-show VIP
Experience which will include an up close and personal Q&A, acoustic set, Meet & Greet photo and a signed item.
