New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Following up on her thriving first single "Dancing To You," Lydia Halloway today revealed "Gold," which features a shimmering mixture of Halloway's layered, high octave vocals and bouncing beats produced by Dibs (Cheat Codes, Carley Rae Jepsen). Lydia Halloway's story is one of persistance through some of her darker experiences fighting cancer. With surgeries threatening her ability to sing, the time she spent recovering was not wasted. The 20 year-old downloaded Ableton and after hundreds of dedicated hours, taught herself to produce. Newest single "Gold" and other tracks from her upcoming EP acknowledge the depth of the experience and lost time while still bringing an optimistic and unique pop style to her writing.
"Gold" meditates on the aftermath of ending things with a teenage love who offered no support during the darkest days of her illness, written in her childhood home during the depth of her illness.
"I wrote this song after the end of a really long, beautiful relationship. I didn't handle things with perfect grace or maturity at the end (I was nineteen) and my ex ended up really demonizing me afterward. 'Gold' is about reconciling with that and resetting the narrative on my own terms - I'm not perfect, but I'm not so bad." - Lydia Halloway
In the months that followed her illness, Halloway's demos bloomed into a collection of arena-sized pop songs that speak to the depth of her experience. As the sole writer on the majority of these tracks, she shows off her uncanny range of emotion and an instinct for hooks that is a rarity in such a young writer.
Playing late night open mics and working closely with producers in the underground scene in her native New York, she honed her sound to highlight both the energy and the intensity of her lyrics. With debut single "Dancing To You" premiering on Earmilk, a promising new EP on the horizon, and a hot second single ready to chart, don't underestimate this young star.
