New York, NY (Top40 Charts) All Points East 2019 rounded out the first weekend on Sunday with thrilling performances by Christine and The Queens, Metronomy,
James Blake, Kamasi Washington, Baloji, Ezra Collective, HONNE, Maribou State, Yves Tumor and more.
Christine and The Queens headlined the East Stage in her first festival headline performance, bringing her immaculately choreographed show to a packed-out crowd in
Victoria Park. Following the release of her critically-acclaimed new Chris, the French music phenomenon (born Héloïse Letissier) swiftly ascended as one of pop's must-see live performers. Charming and poised with an even greater confidence than we saw when she broke out internationally with 'Tilted', the charismatic performer treated festival-goers with a stripped back rendition of
David Bowie's 'Heroes' while the rest of her set powered on with flair and the occasional eye-catching pyrotechnics.
Metronomy took us into the night with a joyous set that celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Nights Out album. Speaking to their love of the local area, Joe Mount said: "My name is Joseph Mount. "I'm a Virgo, and I like long walks along the canal in East London". Local electronic duo HONNE took to the stage with their warm, summery robot-soul tracks. Speaking from the East Stage at
Victoria Park, they said, "We wrote all of this music basically five minutes from here. It's so nice to play music in a park we always come to."
Other highlights from the East Stage include Toro Y Moi. The chill wave icon who recently released his sixth studio album Outer Peace, delivered a playfully sleek set that cradled new tracks like 'Ordinary Pleasure' and 'Baby Drive It Down', as well as crowd pleasers like 'Freelance'. Baloji won over the audience with an energetic performance, mixing sumptuous Congolese-flavoured hip hop with accents of jazz, Afro-disco and funk. To top it all off, he kept everyone guessing with an assortment of headgear changes.
Known for his sonic versatility,
James Blake was a perfect fit for this day of stellar, genre-blurring music. The London-born, Grammy Award-winning artist headlined the North Stage, serving cuts from his latest album Assume Form such as 'Mile High' and 'Barefoot in The Park'.
Jazz extraordinaire Kamasi Washington offered up a memorable performance on the North Stage. Kamasi, donning an extravagant robe, was backed by an equally impressive backing band comprised of drums, trombone, keys, vocals and fellow Alpha Pup Records signee Miles Mosley on bass. Later on, the saxophonist was joined on stage by his dad Rickey Washington, who played an integral role in nurturing the musician.
London-bred quintet Ezra
Collective show why they have been tipped as the future of experimental jazz with an unforgettable live performance. "Let's go to church", said Femi the drummer of Ezra Collective, while his bass player was already sporting his Sunday best in bright orange, traditional African prints. Mixing hip-hop, Afrobeat and jazz, Ezra
Collective thrilled with their distinct fusion sound and also surprised with a sublime cover of the late 90s garage bop 'Sweet Like Chocolate' by Shanks & Bigfoot.
Other key performances from day three included Yves Tumor, who hit the stage in a lime green wig to channel an eye-popping set which included the provocative 'Licking An Orchid' and the airy 'The
Feeling When You Walk Away'.
Electronic duo Maribou
State brought majorly feel good Sunday evening vibes at the West Stage with their fusion of ambient electro-funk, which included the gems 'Midas' and 'Steal'. The West Stage also hosted punchy performances by rap goddess Princess Nokia - who sent the audience into meltdown with 'Kitana' and 'Tomboy' - and pop newcomer Rina Sawayama who delivered a candied, Y2K-electro R&B infused set with a group of dancers. Bangers like 'Cherry', 'Take Me As I Am' and 'Cyber Stockholm Syndrome'.
Next weekend sees Bring Me The Horizon,
Mumford & Sons and
Bon Iver headline, with a supporting cast that includes Run The Jewels,
Dizzee Rascal and John Grant. From Monday 27 May until

Victoria Park featuring live music, creative workshops, street food, pop up bars, panels and talks, and more
