New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Rhiannon Giddens-hosted podcast series Aria Code, presented by The Metropolitan Opera and WQXR, New York's classical music station, has returned with a special episode. It's focused on the aria "The Trees on the Mountain," from American composer Carlisle Floyd's first full-length opera, Susannah, which Giddens performs on her new album, there is no Other, with Francesco Turrisi. For the episode, she is joined by soprano Renée Fleming, writer and stage director Thomas Holliday, and feminist writer Leora Tanenbaum to discuss the piece and its story of innocence lost. You can hear the conversation, as well as Fleming's performance of the aria from the Metropolitan Opera's 1999 production of Susannah and Giddens's own performance from the new album, below.
