New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Korean Rock Band, DAY6, showcase their star power this week with two Billboard charting placements for their 5th Mini Album, 'The Book of Us : Gravity,' and two 1st place wins in Korea for their newly released single "Time of Our Life." Their album was the biggest debut tally this week, landing at #9 on Billboard's World Albums Chart. In addition, 'The Book of Us : Gravity,' debuted on the Heatseakers Albums at #20, which according to Billboard is "a chart that sees far fewer Korean acts enter."
DAY6, a band, that is rare in Korea, have proven their skills throughout the years with instrumental performances, rather than focusing on TV Shows. With their "Every DAY6 Project," the band released a new song every month, raising audience attention, and further achieving the top spot of 2 prestigious Korean
Music Shows. DAY6's title track "Time of Our Life," took home two #1 wins in just two days, on 'Show Champion' and 'M Countdown.'
'The Book of Us : Gravity' dropped on July 15th, receiving notable mentions from publications such as NME, Billboard, Earmilk, MTV News, PopCrush, amongst others. Upon both of their wins, fans from all over the world showed their excitement by trending #Day61stWin and #Day62ndWin immediately on Twitter.
Vocalist and Keyboardist WONPIL, expressed his gratitude after the win, stating; "We didn't know that the day would come when we'd receive a music show trophy. Thank you so much for making us receive first place on 'Show Champion.' We think that the fact that we've gone from small concert halls to here is really all thanks to our fans, My Day."
'The Book of Us : Gravity' is a kick off to their 2nd World Tour, which will expand their scale to a total of 26 cities and 31 performances, further solidifying their presence here in the states. This album, a new release from the band in 7 months, continues to record DAY6's journey through youth. NME gave a stellar review of the album, comparing their tracks to the likes of The 1975 and Shawn Mendes, further expanding "...they've marked themselves out as experts in earnest piano ballads and chugging rock riffs. They eschew complex choreography in favour of playing their own instruments, bringing with them the bone-shaking energy of live rock performance.
A band known for experimenting with different sounds, 'The Book of Us : Gravity' features a variety of genres, while still sticking to their own unique style. "Inspired by the pop-punk bands of their youth (Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and We The Kings, to name a few)," DAY6 tells MTV News that "Time of Our Life" is "about human relationships."

Debuting in 2015, DAY6 is a five-member Band from JYP Entertainment, consisting of SUNGJIN (Main Vocalist and Rhythm Guitarist), Jae (Vocalist and Lead Guitarist), Young K (Vocalist and Bassist), WONPIL (Vocalist and Keyboardist), and DOWOON (Drummer). DAY6 are shattering the boundaries of a stereotypical K-Pop group, with their heartfelt anthems and instrumental expertise. After their sold-out Youth World Tour in 2018, OC Weekly highlighted their last U.S. date stating "The Novo in Los Angeles is somewhat of a rite of passage for many up-and-coming South Korean acts. It marks the point in their Stateside popularity where they have a solid enough following to show up for them and signals a bright future."
'The Book of Us : Gravity' illuminates on the undeniable attraction between two people, to further exploring one's true self. Each individual track captivates the audience by weaving the stories of youth into different pages, in 'The Book of Us'.
Consisting of 6 new tracks, "For me", "Time of Our Life", "How to love", "Wanna Go Back", "Cover", and "Best Part"; Vocalist and Bassist, Young K, is credited in writing lyrics for every track, with Main Vocalist and Rhythm Guitarist, SUNGJIN, jumping in to participate in writing "Cover." Members Jae, Young K, SUNGJIN, and WONPIL, are also credited for their participation composing all tracks throughout the album. Vocalist and Keyboardist, WONPIL, expresses that "this album is a new start for DAY6," with Drummer DOWOON adding "this album reveals our new color (individuality) that we have never shown before."
The title track, "Time of Our Life," contains "hope and confidence towards the beginning of a relationship. It suggests that we write down the memories in our book of life" states Young K. The track further relates to the time spent together, from now on as one book, and suggests "Let's try and make this moment a beautiful page." SUNGJIN adds, "I hope that everyone who listens to our music will write down a page of beautiful youth, together.
Named by Alternative Press as one of the '10 Bands For K-Pop Fans Looking For Something Different' the publication hailed the bands success, stating "With a sound that blends elements of soft-rock ballads and pop-punk anthems, the band have earned their spot in becoming one of the more popular groups in the Korean rock scene." With an appearance on Good Day New York end of last year, Refinery 29 also listed their previous album as one of 'The 12 Best K-Pop Albums of 2018'.
DAY6 showcase a diverse spectrum of music through their unique set up of four vocalists. They have broadened their musical spectrum by cleverly utilizing their vocals to cover emotional music through powerful rock music. Their debut album, The Day, reached Korean Top Five and even more, peaked at #2 on the Billboard World Albums chart. DAY6 chose to promote their music directly to the listeners by throwing gigs, rather than appearing on music and variety shows in Korea. The band is also always maturing musically, along with their audience, as the members write their own songs.
Notably, in January 2017, DAY6 kicked off their "Every DAY6" monthly single project, which showcased a pair of new songs every month throughout the year. The two full-length albums released during the project, called SUNRISE & MOONRISE, both ranked Top 5 in Korea's Gaon charts, and Top 10 in the US World charts.
Around this time, the group expanded their presence into the North American market, conducting a Meet-and-Greet tour in the U.S. and Canada. Soon after, in early 2018, they broke into the Japanese market with the single "If -Mata Aetara-" followed with a tour. On the back of this, the band embarked on a national tour, their 1st World Tour 'Youth'. Their 1st World Tour, which ended in March 2019 with a successful encore concert, scored 28 performances in 24 cities around the world.
