Beyonce and Childish Gambino-featured song from the
Queen Bey-curated Lion King movie soundtrack, Lion King: The Gift.
Rap artists with at least 100 solo appearances include
Nicki Minaj (103),
Lil Wayne (163) and
Drake (196). Overall,
Jay-Z is the sixth artist with 100 solo appearances in the 60-year existence of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The two other acts to have over 100 charting singles are the
Glee Cast (207) and Elvis Pressly (103).
Jay-Z has an additional five entries as The
Carters with his wife Beyoncé, but those don't count to his overall solo appearances. Among his solo visits, the veteran rhyme-slinger hit the apex of the Hot 100 chart four times with "
Heartbreaker" (with Mariah Carey) in 1999, "Crazy in Love" (with Beyoncé) in 2003, "
Umbrella" (with Rihanna) in 2007 and "Empire
State of Mind" (with Alicia Keys) in 2009. Jay-Z's first appearance on the Hot 100 chart was in April 1996 with the classic bangers "Ain't No Nigga" (featuring Foxy Brown) b/w "Dead Presidents."
In addition to
Jay-Z achieving his chart milestone this week, his daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, nabbed her first Hot 100 chart entry with "
Brown Skin Girl" from the Lion King:
