Renowned Salsa artist Marc Anthony, received the Star Award for his outstanding accomplishments in the industry, and for second consecutive year, David Bisbal received the Viewer's Choice Award, which is based on fan's votes.
The night was filled with memorable moments, beginning with a three-star mega opening of back-to-back performances by Soraya, Aleks Syntek and Paulina Rubio. This was followed by an unprecedented celebration of today's urban movement when internationally renowned urban artist P.Diddy, Daddy Yankee, winner in the Reggaeton Album of the Year category, and Crooked Stilo, took the stage and joined for a west coast/east coast urban rendition ending with an electrifying performance of "La Gasolina." In addition, two big stars, Franco de Vita and Olga Tanon, joined together for a melodious duet with their interpretation of "Hay Dios." The night also featured top performances by Marco Antonio Solis, Juanes, Thalia, Marc Anthony, Christian Castro, Conjunto Primavera, and Juan Luis Guerra. The surprise element of the night was rendered by Tony Melendez, in a tribute to the memory of late Pope John Paul II; this artist, who was born without arms, utilized his feet to play the guitar and perform a soul stirring song.
The star-studded event was hosted by TV personality Candela Ferro and telenovela superstar Saul Lisazo, while Jimmy Smits, Ray Santiago, Ana Gabriel, Joan Sebastian, Graciela Beltran, Tito Nieves, Andres Garcia, Gabriela Spanic, Jose Angel Llamas, Danna Garcia, Miguel Varoni, and Maria Celeste Arraras were among the awards presenters.
The awards show was preceded by the star-studded red carpet arrivals, which for the first time featured a stage with live performances by young up-and-coming artists, including JD Natasha, Pitbull and Javier Garcia.
