Corey Taylor has described Slipknot's All Hope Is Gone outtakes as having "much more of a rock vibe" when compared to the metal outfit's previous work. In fact, the singer says the trove of mostly unreleased tracks give "more of a
Radiohead vibe" as opposed to the customary
Slipknot fare found on its parent album.
"I guess that's gonna see the light of the day," the vocalist said of Look Outside Your Window, the "whole other album" that band founder and percussionist Shawn "
Clown" Crahan began teasing last week in an interview with Loudwire following the release of We Are Not Your Kind, Slipknot's latest album. Hear the interview excerpt of Taylor detailing the tunes below.
"We've been trying to find a way to release those songs for God knows how long," Taylor admitted of the extra All Hope Is Gone-era effort when calling in to Thursday's (Aug. 22) Trunk Nation. "They were actually something we were recording [when] we basically had two different studios going on. One group of guys was recording what ended up becoming Look Outside Your Window, and then the bulk of the band was making All Hope Is Gone."
He continued, "The stuff from Look Outside Your Window … there's no real way to describe it. It's experimental but it's super vibey, super melodic. It's really good. It's really hard to explain. It's just there's something about those songs that are very solemn, very energetic, very artistic. For people who are used to a certain way of
Slipknot sounding, this doesn't sound anything like that. It's much more of a rock vibe. Honestly, it's much more of a
Radiohead vibe."
As for why the bonus album has yet to see the light of day, Taylor indicated that tensions within the band surrounding the recording of their 2008 full-length prevented the songs from being issued.
"I tried like hell to make those two worlds come together," he added. "To the point where I was taking songs from both and kind of putting them together [in] an arrangement, sequencing. I had like two different versions of All Hope Is Gone that I had put together with songs from that. Honestly, because of the emotional rifts that were in the band, the turmoil that was going on, nobody wanted to try and make that work."
According to the fan-driven
Slipknot Wiki, previously released AHIG bonus tracks such as "Vermilion Pt. 2" and "'Til We Die" represent some part of the Look Outside Your Window work.
Slipknot are currently rocking across the U.S. on the Knotfest Roadshow before they head head to Australia with Metallica.
