Music Festival For Brain Health Reaches Quarter Century Milestone
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Staglin family celebrated a quarter century of important advances in science and a new financial milestone at the 25th Music Festival for Brain Health on September 14th in the Napa Valley. The 2019 event raised over $9 million to benefit One Mind. In addition, the Staglin family and the One Mind Board of Directors announced that over $64 million in follow-up funding has been raised in 2019 bringing the 25-year cumulative total, including direct contributions and leveraged funds provided to scientists as a result of initial research funding from festival proceeds, to over $450 million dollars since 1995. One Mind is the nation's leading private-public mental health organization dedicated to curing brain-related diseases, including depression, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury and bipolar illness, focusing on issues including funding, research, advocacy, open science principles, and anti-stigma.

Co-hosts Shari and Garen Staglin, along with their children Brandon and Shannon, Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Congressman Mike Thompson, and the Board of Directors welcomed over 500 supporters, scientists, and friends to celebrate life and raise awareness of the causes and cures for physiological brain disorders.

The 25th Annual festival began with a scientific symposium, featuring keynote speaker John Krystal, MD, Chair of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Krystal is a world leader in research on post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, and depression. Eric Nestler, MD, PhD, Dean for Academic and Scientific Affairs at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, moderated the symposium.

Following the symposium, a tasting of some of the world's most acclaimed wines took place in the Staglin Family Vineyard winery caves, with hors d'oeuvres provided by restaurateur Bettina Rouas of celebrated Angéle Restaurant in Napa. The party continued when Sheryl Crow took the stage for an intimate concert among the Staglin Family Vineyard vines, delivering a crowd-pleasing performance of her many hits that had attendees on their feet and singing along with the nine-time GRAMMY award-winning artist.

The post-concert VIP Dinner featured the cuisine of renowned Chef Nina Compton of Compère Lapin and Bywater American Bistro in New Orleans, paired with Staglin Family Vineyard wines. Generosity was evident with an impromptu fund-a-need auction that raised over $1.1 million to support One Mind programs.

Donations to the Music Festival for Brain Health may be made on-line at onemind.org or by sending a check to One Mind, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that sponsors the Music Festival. Please mail donations to: P.O. Box 680, Rutherford, Calif., 94573. The date for the 26th Music Festival for Brain Health has been set for Saturday, September 12, 2020.
